Introduction
In this audio webcast, Dr. Michael Klinkman, Associate Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Psychiatry at the University of Michigan, and Director of the Primary Care Programs at the University of Michigan Depression Center will provide a comprehensive overview of the psychopharmacology for depression, including treatment options, alternative therapies, patient selection criteria, monitoring treatment response and principles of care.
Intended Audience
This continuing medical education program is intended for primary care physicians and other healthcare professionals who manage patients with major depressive disorder.
Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Describe commonly-used antidepressant medications including dosing ranges, costs, and side effects.
- Select an appropriate pharmacotherapy and monitor the effectiveness of treatment.
- Apply the evidence-based approaches (STAR*D Trial) to the treatment of depression.
- Describe considerations for referral to specialty care.
